SMS Security

Make your mobile your personal bank alarm
As part of our ongoing security commitment to NAB Internet Banking customers, we are pleased to offer NAB's free service – SMS Security. Using the ease and speed of text messaging, we’ve made online banking even safer by using your mobile phone as a second level of authentication.

The way it works is simple
  1. Log in to Internet Banking as usual using your NAB ID and Internet Banking password (first level of authentication).
  2. When you are making third party payments, we send you a unique one-time security code via SMS to your mobile phone (second level of authentication). Confirm that the payment details are correct and then simply enter the SMS Security authorisation code into the corresponding field in Internet Banking to complete the transaction.

So, even if your Internet Banking password falls into the wrong hands, they don’t have your mobile and can’t complete the payment.

The SMS also alerts you that the attempt has been made to fraudulently access your account, enabling us to work with you to investigate and take appropriate action.

With a whole extra layer of protection, you can bank online with extra peace of mind. It’s like your own personal bank alarm.

SMS Security authorisation limit

To provide greater convenience to you when using ‘pay anyone’ to transfer funds you can switch on the daily SMS Security authorisation limit. The daily authorisation limit allows certain small funds transfers to be verified using your NAB Internet Banking password instead of receiving an SMS Security code. The daily authorisation limit will be set at $300 but may change from time to time to improve customer security and provide greater convenience. You can choose to switch off the daily authorisation limit to ensure that all ‘pay anyone’ funds transfers require an SMS Security authorisation code.

How does SMS Security help you?
