NAB smart everyday bank accounts

What are the main benefits of NAB eBanking, NAB Classic Banking or NAB Gold Banking?

You'll benefit from:
  • NAB Visa Debit card: You can use your own money to make purchases online, overseas and over the phone, wherever Visa is accepted
  • Avoid the monthly account service fee: Arrange for your salary or regular deposit into your NAB smart everyday account, and if the deposit(s) meet the minimum monthly threshold, the Monthly Account Service Fee will be waived
  • Enhanced Security: The NAB Visa Debit card comes with enhanced security benefits including transaction monitoring; Verified by Visa; 90-day Purchase Protection Insurance3; and Visa’s Zero Liability2
  • Don’t pay for non-NAB ATM fees: With NAB Gold Banking you can make unlimited transactions at any ATM in Australia, and many overseas ATMs, without incurring extra fees

How often will statements be sent?
If your NAB Visa Debit card is linked to a NAB smart everyday account, statements will be sent bi-monthly, unless otherwise requested. If you do not have a NAB Visa Debit card linked to the account, statements will default to six monthly.

What savings accounts can be linked to the new smart everyday accounts?
NAB iSaver, a high interest online savings account can be linked.  There are no account or transaction fees with NAB iSaver, perfect if you are saving towards a goal, and you can apply for one at the same time as a NAB everyday account.  If you prefer a more 'traditional' savings account with branch access, you could consider a NAB Smart Reward Saver.  You can also apply for this at the same time as a NAB everyday account.

What happens if I overdraw my account?
If your account is overdrawn and there is not an overdraft facility in place, if NAB pays the transaction a reference fee may apply. If NAB declines the transaction a dishonour fee may apply.

Is an overdraft facility available on any of the new accounts?
Yes, overdrafts1 are available on these accounts. Existing overdraft lending criteria applies. Fees, charges, terms and conditions apply.

Can I set up recurring payments and direct debits?
Yes, you can arrange for recurring payments or direct debits for things like regular bills, insurance premiums, rent etc. to be set up. Having a NAB Visa Debit card has the added flexibility of enabling these payments to be made using the card details.

Will 100% Offset still be available?
Yes - 100% Offset applies to all the new accounts - NAB eBanking, NAB Classic Banking and NAB Gold Banking.

How are the monthly account service fees waived?
NAB will waive any account service fees where deposits into that account for the month are equal to or greater the prescribed amount set out below:

  • NAB eBanking - Deposit at least $2,500 a month to qualify for a fee waiver
  • NAB Classic Banking - Deposit at least $3,500 a month to qualify for a fee waiver
  • NAB Gold Banking - Deposit at least $5,000 a month to qualify for a fee waiver

The following customers will not pay the monthly account service fee on NAB Classic Banking:

• Customers under the age of 18
• Full time students
• NAB shareholders (minimum of 500 shares)

How do I swap my old NAB account to a NAB eBanking, NAB Classic Banking or NAB Gold Banking account?
You can swap by using the online application form, or by calling us on 13 22 65, 8am - 8pm EST, Monday to Friday. Your account numbers will remain the same, so you won’t need to worry about updating any of your direct debits or credits such as bill payments or your salary credit.

NAB Visa Debit card

What is a NAB Visa Debit Card?
A NAB Visa Debit card enables you to use your own money to make purchases online, overseas and over the phone wherever Visa is accepted.  The same card gives you access to Australian and international ATMs.

What is the difference between NAB Visa Debit card and a Credit card?

  • Both card types are accepted at more than 24 million locations worldwide and can be used to make online, overseas and telephone purchases. 
  • With a credit card, you ‘buy now, pay later’ whilst with a Visa Debit card, you ‘buy now, pay now’ because you are immediately paying for your purchases with the money in your own account. 
  • This means you can avoid the potential interest charges associated with using credit.

What if I decide at a later stage that I want a NAB Visa Debit card?
A NAB Visa Debit card can be attached to a NAB smart everyday account at any time, simply by calling us on 13 22 65 or at any NAB branch.

What is the age limit to apply for the NAB Visa Debit card?
You must be at least 16 years or older to open a NAB Visa Debit card.  However if you are aged 16 but under 18 years of age, you will need to have your parent/guardian as a joint account holder.

Can the customer choose the colour of their NAB Visa Debit Card?
Yes, you can choose from three colours red, black and white.  Customers with NAB Gold Banking will automatically receive our NAB Gold Visa Debit card.

What are the additional benefits of the NAB Gold Visa Debit card?

  • Extended Warranty Insurance4 – New goods purchased in full on a Gold Visa Debit card, and which come with a manufacturer’s warranty applicable in Australia, may be extended for up to 12 additional months with this complimentary cover. (Conditions apply). 
  • NAB Gold Overseas Travel Insurance4 - If 100% of return overseas airfares including charges, fees and/or taxes is purchased with the Gold Visa Debit card, NAB Gold Overseas Travel Insurance is received at no additional cost. (Conditions apply).
  • Daily withdrawal limit – NAB Gold Visa Debit card comes with a $2000 daily purchase and withdrawal limit (excl. purchases on the ‘credit’ button which are limited only to the customer’s available balance).

Does the daily limit apply to all transactions on the card? 
The daily limit ($1000 on NAB Visa Debit card and $2000 on NAB Gold Visa Debit) applies to all cash withdrawals and purchases using the card, with the exception of purchases using the ‘credit’ button.  As the ‘credit’ button uses the Visa network, these transactions are limited only to the available balance of the customers account.

Can the customer have more than one NAB Visa Debit card on their account?

  • Yes, up to two cards can be attached to the account at no extra cost. 
  • Each cardholder can select their preferred Visa Debit card colour. 
  • For NAB Gold Banking, all cardholders can receive up to two NAB Gold Visa Debit cards at no extra cost.   

Is a credit application required for the NAB Visa Debit Card?
No - as the NAB Visa Debit card can only be attached to a smart everyday account it is not subject to a credit application.

How is the NAB Visa Debit Card used to make purchases?

  • When the NAB Visa Debit card is used at the point of purchase, the customer will need to press ‘credit’ to make their payment.
  • Using the ‘credit’ button will access the funds in their own account and will also enable additional security features such as transaction monitoring and Visa’s Zero Liability2 policy

 

Can EFTPOS still be used?
Yes - to use EFTPOS you should select from either the ‘cheque’ or ‘savings’ button and enter their PIN when paying for their purchase. You will be able to withdraw cash using EFTPOS as per normal.

How are purchases made on the Internet/telephone using NAB Visa Debit?
You simply need to quote the card number and expiry date. Some merchants may require customers to quote their three-digit Card Validation Code, printed on the back of their card.

How does Verified by Visa work when making online purchases?
Firstly, you will need to register for  it. Once registered, you will be prompted to enter their Verified by Visa password whenever they make online purchases with participating organisations. The additional password provides extra protection if the card or card details are stolen from fraudulent internet purchases.

What does the Visa Zero Liability2 policy mean?
When you report your NAB Visa Debit card lost, stolen or suspect that your card details have been used fraudulently, you will be reimbursed for any unauthorised transactions as outlined in the Personal Transaction and Savings Account Terms & Conditions. You should contact 13 22 65 if you believe your NAB Visa Debit card has been used fraudulently.

What purchase protection3 will I receive with the NAB Visa Debit card?
When purchasing most new retail items using the Visa Debit card in Australia or overseas, you will be protected against loss, theft or damage for 90 consecutive days from the date of purchase by Purchase Protection Insurance3.

What additional Visa services can I access?

Will I receive a new PIN with my NAB Visa Debit card?
Yes, the PIN will be sent in the mail after you receive your NAB Visa Debit card. The PIN is required when accessing your money through an ATM or EFTPOS.

How do I know if I am eligible for a NAB  Retirement Account?
It's simple. Are you receiving a Department of Social Security pension or allowance, which is subject to deeming or over the age of 55 and retired?  If you answered yes to either one of the questions and have sufficient proof of identity then you are eligible for a NAB Retirement Account.  If you qualify for these accounts you can enjoy their great benefits, including no monthly service fees.

NAB Concession Card Account

What are the main benefits of NAB Concession Card Account?
The NAB Concession Card Account is free of account service and NAB transaction fees while still providing you with convenient, easy access to your funds - including unlimited NAB branch transactions, NAB Internet Banking and NAB Telephone Banking, NAB ATMs and EFTPOS.  Fees apply for using non-NAB ATMs and accessing your money overseas.  If you have a NAB Concession Card Account and are also a NAB Credit Card primary account holder the Credit Card account Overlimit Fee will not be charged.

 

 

How do I know if I am eligible for a NAB  Concession Card Account?
To be eligible for the NAB Concession Card Account you must have a current Pensioner Concession Card, Commonwealth Health Care Card, Commonwealth Seniors Health Card or Veteran Affairs Card. You may need to have your Centrelink payments paid into the NAB Concession Card Account.

How do I open a NAB Concession Card Account?
Due to proof of eligibility requirements, we are unable to open Concession Card Accounts online. All you need to do is visit a nearby NAB branch to apply.


In order to be eligible for a NAB Concession Card account, you need to be a Concession Card holder, and you will need to have your Centrelink payments credited into this account. You'll need to bring your current Seniors Card into the branch when you apply, as well as additional identification if you are not already a NAB customer.

NAB Clear Banking

What are the main benefits of NAB Clear Banking?
NAB Clear Banking is an account with no overdrawn fees, but access via NAB branches, NAB Internet Banking, NAB Telephone Banking, NAB ATMs and EFTPOS.  Fees apply for using non-NAB ATMs and accessing your money overseas.  This account cannot be connected to a cheque book or a NAB Visa Debit card.

How does NAB Clear Banking work?
With NAB Clear Banking you won’t be charged overdrawn (reference, dishonour or periodical non-payment) fees because the account significantly reduces the risk of you becoming overdrawn. Any transaction, even a direct debit or periodic payment that overdraws your account, will be restricted and declined where possible. On the rare occasion your account may become overdrawn (for example, if a purchase is manually debited from your account if EFTPOS is not available), you will be charged default interest.
