The NAB monthly account service fees are all flat-fee and will vary depending on the account you choose.  You can avoid paying the monthly account service fee on NAB eBanking, NAB Classic Banking, NAB Gold Banking, and NAB Clear Banking by depositing a minimum amount into your account each month (see below for details).

  • NAB eBanking has a $4 monthly account service fee (unless deposit waiver applies - see below)
  • NAB Classic Banking has a $5 monthly account service fee (unless deposit waiver applies - see below)
  • NAB Gold Banking has a $12 monthly account service fee (unless deposit waiver applies - see below)
  • There is no monthly account service fee charged on the NAB Retirement Account, NAB Concession Card Account
  • If you are a full-time tertiary student, on the NAB Classic Banking account
  • NAB Clear Banking has a monthly account service fee or $6, unless you deposit a minimum amount into your account each month (unless deposit waiver applies - see below)

When are these fees waived?
NAB will waive any account service fees if deposits into that account for the month are equal to or greater than the prescribed amount set out below:

  • NAB eBanking - Deposit at least $2,500 a month to qualify for a fee waiver
  • NAB Classic Banking - Deposit at least $3,500 a month to qualify for a fee waiver
  • NAB Gold Banking - Deposit at least $5,000 a month to qualify for a fee waiver
  • NAB Clear Banking - Deposit at least $3,500 a month to qualify for a fee waiver

For older accounts such as NAB Smart Access, if you have a NAB Smart Access account and maintain a minimum balance over $3,000 the monthly service fee of $5 will not be charged.  If you have more than $35,000 in deposits or lending (called 'footings') in other accounts with NAB (some product exclusions apply - please call 13 13 12 for details) the monthly service fee on your NAB Smart Direct or NAB Smart Access account will not be charged.

The following customers will not pay the monthly account service fee on NAB Classic Banking:

• Customers under the age of 18
• Full-time students
• NAB shareholders (minimum of 500 shares)

Can I avoid the monthly account service fee on joint accounts?
Yes, each accountholder’s deposits will be eligible.

Does the monthly threshold change each month?
No, the minimum monthly threshold is set for each account and does not fluctuate. NAB does reserves the right to change threshold levels with appropriate notice to the account holders.

What other fees are there?1
Depending on the NAB smart everyday account you choose, fees can be incurred for:
- using a non-NAB ATM
 - branch withdrawals2
 - using cheques2
 - accessing your account while overseas
 - requesting additional service requests (e.g. bank cheques, additional printing of statements)

1 Please note that NAB’s older style account, NAB FlexiAccount , operates differently than the NAB eBanking, NAB Classic Banking, NAB Gold Banking, NAB Smart Access and NAB Smart Direct accounts. The FlexiAccounts is a ‘pay-as-you go’ style account where it is important to track the number of transactions you make. 2 Unless you have a NAB Classic Banking or NAB Smart Access account, where the monthly service fee of $5 covers unlimited transactions via branches and cheques.

For more information read Your Guide to Fees and Charges

How can I avoid paying the $2 fee for non-NAB ATM withdrawals?
With NAB Gold Banking you will enjoy unlimited usage of any ATM in Australia or overseas without any non-NAB ATM fees.

What if I don't have a flat-fee account?
Our older style transaction account, the NAB FlexiAccount (which is no longer for sale), is a 'pay-as-you-go' style account and operates differently.  You can swap your existing NAB account today to take advantage of the new smart accounts.  It's easy and takes about 5 minutes to do online.

Details of the fee structure for these accounts can be found in A Guide to Fees and Charges - Personal Banking Fees

For more information on these accounts, please call 13 13 12 or drop into a NAB branch, or consider swapping to a new NAB smart everyday account such as NAB eBanking, NAB Classic Banking or NAB Gold Banking.

So how can I swap my old NAB account to a new NAB smart everyday account?
Swapping to an NAB eBanking, NAB Classic Banking or NAB Gold Banking account is easy. When applying, you’ll also be given the option of receiving a Visa Debit card which enables access to your own money through the worldwide Visa network.
