Business conditions amongst Australia's small to medium sized businesses weakened further in the June quarter, according to NAB's business survey of SMEs (small, medium & larger firms).

NAB's SME business conditions index decreased 7 points to 8 index points in the June quarter (with 27% of SMEs reporting good or very good conditions and 19% poor or very poor conditions) - but remained better than conditions reported by larger businesses (3 index points).

All SMEs reported deterioration in conditions in the June quarter. Small SMEs (annual turnover between $2m-$3m) are now the worst performing segment at 0 index points, with the same proportion of firms reporting good and poor conditions. Business conditions for large sized SMEs (annual turnover between $5m-$10m) were the highest at 11 index points, followed by mid sized SMEs (annual turnover between $3-$5m) at 9 index points.
