Security features
- appoint authorised users to limit access and payment approval
- allocate authorisation limits to control who authorises payments of large value
- choose between two methods of payment authorisation, either authorisation password or authentication device
- nominate one or more administrators to establish new users, change the level of access and reset passwords
- create multiple authorised operators
- bulk authorise payment instructions (for operators of password authorisation only)
- send and receive secure messages
You can control who uses National Online Business as each authorised operator requires a logon ID and a password. You can also restrict the functions individual operators can perform and which accounts they can access. For example, some authorised operators can be given access to reporting functions on selected accounts, while others have the authority to create payments.
Authorisation
Just as you have a select few in any business who can sign cheques, you can select one or more payment authorisers (Authorising Officers) to approve payments. Each payment is authorised by using an Authorisation Password or an Authentication Device.
You can also allocate authorisation limits to provide additional security and control. For example, different people can authorise varying payment limits to provide greater payment control and flexibility.
Choosing the authorisation method that best suits you.
The Authorisation Password method is reliant on knowledge of the password. Anyone who knows the password potentially has the ability to authorise payments. However, National Online Business allows you to regularly change passwords to minimise risk. Nominated Authorising Officers will be issued with an authorisation password that is different to the logon password. Authorisation Passwords can be used to approve any payments made through National Online Business.
The Authentication Device is a safer method of authorising payments because it is a separate device from your computer and involves authorising payments with a continuously changing authorisation code. The Authentication Device comprises a Card and Reader protected by a PIN. Each Authoriser must be supplied with a Card, however a Card may be used with any Reader.
The number of Readers you require depends on the needs of your business. For example you may have a total of four people who require the ability to authorise payments. Each of these four will be issued with a Card but you may decide that only two Readers are required. Each Authoriser can use either of the Readers to authorise a payment. Alternatively you may decide that each Authoriser should have their own Reader. The choice is yours.
